5 Must-Watch Netflix Shows

I am, potentially, winters no 1 fan. I claim this is down to the countdown to Christmas, chunky scarves and that feeling when you stand on a crisp leaf. The real reason however, is much more simple. Winter is the one time of the year when you can get tucked up under a duvet with the TV remote in one hand a ‘share’ bag of bacon rashers in the other and not leave the house for weeks. People understand in winter if you cancel plans because of the ‘weather’ and it’s perfectly acceptable to spend 70% of your time in your PJ’s. This year I’m actually pretty excited for spring/summer to show it’s face but that will inevitably mean binge-drinking Kopparbergs in a beer garden instead of binge watching Netflix at home.

We’ve got a few months (maybe weeks?!) until winter is no longer a valid excuse for hours sat inside so if you’re like me then we’ve gotta make the most of the time we’ve got left. I’ve watched a LOT of TV these past few dark and cold months (because why on earth would I go out into the cold and socialise?!)  so I’ve put together my top 5 Netflix shows to binge watch before summer rolls around once more…

How to get away with murder

I started binge watching this back when I was a student with nothing better to do and I got through each season in about a week. I always fancied myself as a lawyer so this series taps into my un-lived out dream and features my all time favourite actress/person Viola Davis. Following a successful lawyer as she takes 5 law students under her wing the series centers around the 5 students covering up a murder of their own whilst trying to win the cases in the courtroom. It’s a must watch for anyone who enjoys a whodunnit.

The Crown

I don’t think there could ever be a more apt TV show for me. Ever since I can remember I’ve been fascinated by the royal family and this follows the early years of Queen Elizabeth’s reign. This Netflix original is reportedly the most expensive TV series ever made and boy can you tell. Opulence, grandeur and all round fabulousness ooze out of the TV. The episodes seem pretty long and some of the facts are *slightly* dramatised but it’s super interesting even if you’re not an outright royal lover.

Scream

OK so this is a BIT of a classic, cheesy American teen drama but who doesn’t love one of them? Based loosely around the original Scream film this follows a group of teenagers as one by one their friends are getting killed off by the famous man in the mask. It’s nothing groundbreaking but I did find myself getting a little on edge when watching it home alone and it’s yet another whodunnit that taps into my love of crime dramas.

Pretty Little Liars

If you haven’t watched or at least heard of Pretty Little Liars then where have you been for the past few years? This American teen drama follows a group of girls who find themselves being stalked by their supposedly dead friend. Admittedly it’s gone on for a while and I struggle to remember everything that happened in previous seasons but clever twists and links mean just when you think you’ve figured it all out you realise you couldn’t be further from the truth. The final season is set to air this Spring so I’m expecting big things from the finale.

Glitch

One for the Stranger Things fans (another one that should be on the list) Glitch is an Australian sci-fi, mystery drama set in the Aussie outback. This follows a small town as one by one bodies in the local cemetery start to come back to live. It sounds like some awful zombie series but it’s actually very clever and is more science and mystery than zombies and blood. It’s a bit of a slow burner but definitely one to check out if you’re into aliens/sci-fi/Stranger Things.

I can’t help but think I’ve had a pretty productive winter making my way through all of these but now I’m on the hunt for something new….Black Mirror it is.
