When you’re as big a cocktail fan as I am then you aren’t gunna turn down the chance to sample some of Liverpool’s finest beverages all under one roof. On Thursday I was invited along to a sneak preview of Cocktails in the City; every cocktail lover’s dream event that’s hitting Liverpool this Friday.
Cocktails in the City (or #CITCLIV as the cool kids are calling it) is set to take over the Baltic Warehouse and showcase some of Liverpool’s finest cocktail connoisseurs over a night of mixing masterclasses and tipple tastings. With everyone from The Alchemist and El Bandito to Red Door and The Roxy Ballroom all of the city’s finest are out in force to show you how to do cocktails the scouse way.
Thursday’s event saw me and my drinking buddies head to Furnivals Well (a drinking establishment which really deserves a post of its own, if you haven’t already then make sure you go) for an evening of cocktail speed dating. One minute I was falling in love with an absinthe fuelled concoction from Some Place and the next I was cheating on it with a Tequila and Ting from El Bandito.
The brains behind the evening had picked the perfect location. Furnivals well is a converted Victorian police station where the cells have been converted into booths where you can while away a few hours, cocktail in hand. Each ‘cell’ was home to a different bar where one of their finest drink aficionados took us through the best beverage on their menu. From learning about mixing peppercorn and Plymouth gin with 81LTD to Red Door and their slushies and lack of straws (the guys are making an effort to reduce straws at their bars to prevent waste…you go glen coco!) I came away feeling clued up on my cocktails and potentially ever so slightly tipsy.
Whether you’re a negroni novice or a porn star martini pro the #CITCLIV event is one that should most definitely be firmly in your diary. If you fancy trying your hand at some cocktail shaking and sipping on Friday then you can get your tickets here.
