The winter can be a pretty divisive time for a lot of people. Some look at it as a time where you get to enjoy the warmth and cosiness of staying at home while the weather gets colder and colder outside, and for others, it’s nothing but a frozen wasteland of misery and despair. Okay, that might be a bit dramatic, but a lot of people really aren’t that fond of winter at all. However, even if you’re not much of a cold weather person, there’s nothing quite like being able to enjoy the warmth and comfort of home while the weather outside gets worse and worse. With that in mind, here are few ways to embrace that classic winter comfort.
Turn up the heat
It’s easy to forget about heating your home during the summer months. In fact, most of us get so used to not using our central heating that the cold kind of sneaks up on us. You don’t realise just how cold your home is until you notice that you can see your breath and your toes are going numb. (We even thought ours was broken until we realised we just weren’t turning it on right…oops!) Make sure that you set your heating up to get things nice and warm first thing in the morning and when you first get home from work. Those are the two times of day when your home is the most likely to be one large ice cube.
Snuggle up under a blanket
You might already be a fan of lazing on the couch, but there’s nothing better than being able to snuggle up under a blanket with someone and watch some TV. The summer might be the time that you go out and enjoy the sunshine with a cold drink, but the winter is the time for catching up on all of those Netflix shows that you promised you’d watch with a cup of tea. Clear your schedule, find yourself a thick blanket to hide under, and finally catch up with Narcos so that everyone in your office leaves you alone!
Get cosy in the bedroom
One of the most frustrating things about the changing of the season is trying to get a good night’s sleep. You’ve spent the entire summer with your windows open and your duvet thrown across the room and all of a sudden you’re waking up in the night with your teeth chattering and icicles hanging from your nostrils. If you want a good night’s sleep, then you need duck feather duvets, thick pillows, and as many extra blankets as you can get your hands on! Having someone to cuddle up with while you’re asleep is pretty nice as well though that’s a bit more of an optional extra.
The best thing to do is to give these things a try at least, even if you’re not certain you’ll particularly enjoy them. Even if you’re more of a summer person, there’s nothing you can do to avoid the winter, so you might as well embrace it. And hey, if you’re really miserable, just remember that it’s only going to last a few months anyway!
