Now here’s something you don’t see around these parts very often. A beauty review. I’m a girl who loves nothing more than taking her makeup off after a long day and if I can make the getting ready process any quicker then I will. That being said I do seem to have cosmetics coming out of my ears and actually quite enjoy a browse along the aisle of Superdrug for a new lip gloss that will plump my lips to Billie Piper levels or a moisturiser that will make my other half wonder how on EARTH I get my legs so smooth.
REN Skincare have been on my radar for quite a while so when they got in touch to see if I fancied trying out their Perfect Canvas primer I certainly wasn’t gunna say no. I’ve been in the market for a good primer for quite some time. Normally by about 3pm my foundation looks like patchwork and is sliding down my face at a rate of knots. I’ve tried it all; long-lasting foundation, setting powder, that old spraying your face with hairspray trick. None of it worked.
First things first, the packaging of this stuff is fab. It’s sleek and minimalist and is the sort of thing that would look great sitting pretty on a dressing table. The Pasteur pipette bottle (definitely didn’t google that to find out the right name…) makes the whole thing feel ever so fancy and is surprisingly easy to use. It’s also pretty handy for making sure you don’t go overboard with the amount of product you use. A little goes a long way with this so the applicator stops you from accidentally pouring half the bottle on one cheek.
But does it actually work? Well in a nutshell, yes. I’ve been popping this on in between my moisturiser and foundation and for once in my life my makeup is still firmly in place by the time I make it home at the end of the day. I’m an oily skinned gal and to be honest I don’t think I’ll ever find a way to stop my makeup moving a smidge all day but this has made a marked improvement.
I no longer have to top up my foundation 3 times a day and I even wore this to the recent Northern Blog Awards and despite downing too much prosecco and dancing until the early hours; my makeup was still pretty darn presentable by the time I stumbled home.
I also have quite uneven skin, I mean it’s not the rockiest of terrain but blemishes and breakouts are often a common occurrence meaning trying to get a smooth finish on my foundation can be a tricky task. From the minute you apply this primer you can feel it smoothing out your skin, making the perfect base to apply your foundation and I’ve found my makeup has been a whole lot easier to apply since I added this into my routine.
If you’re in the market for a new primer or you want to dip your toe into REN skincare for the first time then Perfect Canvas is the perfect product for you.
The Perfect Canvas primer was kindly sent to me for review to celebrate the products first birthday however all opinions are my own.
